Spring/ Summer Lingerie Trends

With new season fashion trends it is very easy to get excited about a new dress style or trouser shape but there is one area that is easy to forget; underwear.

The right underwear under an outfit can make or break the look and besides there never needs to be an excuse to by the pretty new lingerie.

This spring/summer lingerie is all about a pretty and feminine look. Your underwear should look ultra feminine and flirty. This spring/summer think pretty florals and feminine colours which all look perfect under this season’s trend for lady like blouses and floral dresses. But a floral bra doesn’t have to have to be in pastel colours bright sexy floral bras in jewel tones and bright colour blocks are also a great look this spring/summer and will add some fun into your lingerie draw.

When it comes to shape longline bras are having a fashion moment, think mad men style and channel your inner Joan by going for retro inspired bras and knickers. A longline bra has just the right 50s style and provides great support so is perfect for adding a sexy style to your lingerie draw.

In fact anything is hugely popular when it comes to lingerie; not only is Mad Men style still hugely popular but with the continuing popularity of Dita Von Tease and the release of the film Burlesque the look is all about getting that nostalgic look but in modern colours and materials. So think sexy corsets, stockings, suspenders and high waist knickers, all of which are flattering for the curvy lady and with a variety of plus size lingerie available online and instores what are you waiting for? What’s more you can even get sexy shapewear in this style. No longer frumpy and Bridget Jones-esque, shapewear now looks sexy with retro styling details combined with the power to pull your stomach in what’s not to love? One’s things certain they look good when your clothes come off!

When it comes to colour this season is the time to ditch your black and white bras and pants and instead this season is all about colour. The catwalks were full of bright colour pop outfits and you can get your lingerie to match. Think bright teals, blues and pinks – even oranges and yellows for a fab way to add some fun to your Monday morning.

Big Hair!

In recent year’s poker straight hair has dominated fashion. We’ve all gone mad for GHD straighteners and hair products that keep the hair sleek and straight but there is a new look this season – the bouffant.

The spring/summer catwalks were full of 1970s style fashion and it is not just clothes that are popular, hair is also going more undone and retro.

Cheryl Cole recently turned up to the American X-Factor auditions with her hair teased into a massive bouffant and she wore the look in a recent Elnet hairspray ad. Star of Sex and the City Sarah Jessica Parker attended a Robin Hood Foundation event rocking a bouffant.

Even supermodel Elle McPherson has been seen wearing the 70s look, she stepped out on the school run looking like she belonged in Charlie’s Angels. She also opted for a bouffant style but with a little less volume then Cheryl Cole and Sarah Jessica Parker chose. Instead she created volume by digging out the rollers and going for curls.

In fact waves are making a big comeback as more and more celebs ditch the super-sleek straight styles for sexy bouncy curls. So much so it has become a red carpet favourite with the likes of Drew Barrymore, Beyonce, and JLo rocking the look at awards ceremonies.

The new Duchess of Cambridge, formally Catherine Middleton, has even ditched the irons in favour of a more natural retro do. So much so salons have been inundated with requests for the “Kate”.

It is not just celebs who are favouring the look it was also popular on catwalks with the GILES collections amongst others showing a Farrah Fawcett inspired Disco style.

What’s more the look is easy to achieve at home as long as you have enough hairspray that is. If you are going for 70s inspired curls you need to prep the hair with a good mousse. Then take large rollers or tongs and wrap large sections of the hair round them alternating the direction. Once this is done leave the rollers to cool or pin tonged hair in place to allow it to set now is the time to spray it with hairspray. When it is cool take the rollers or pins out and gently brush the waves out. For extra volume backcomb the underneath, if you are going for a Cheryl style bouffant you will need quite a lot of backcombing. To finish the look off spray it with hairspray.

The model’s own preference

You know if a model likes it then it has to be a good thing, after all they spend many hours with top designers, A-list stylists and the best make up artists money can buy!

So what are the models opting for this season? Catwalk hair is the answer to that question and locks emerging at New York Fashion Weeks are the most relatable on the fashion week curcuit according to Guido Palau’s Antipodean offsider, Richard Kavanagh. This seasons hair is extremely undone in style and both textures and shapes have been created in a subtle manner. This season is definitely nodding it’s head towards the low key 90’s, however locks offered a cleaned, less heavy and mire romantic style.

Models sported locks that resembles bed hair, imagine soft waves and a few plaits here and there. Models at the show favoured the fashion house Rag & Bone when it came to slept in hair that appeared just washed with a soft downtown plait vibe going down!

The best buys in the Market that boast to create such a look include Redkens’ Satinwear 02, which should be applied to the locks prior to styling and creates a soft style blow-dry look. The perfect look for a casual event such as a day at the beach or a low-key dinner with friends! The Redken Satinwear product can be purchased for a price under £20 and us available from a variety of salons nationwide or alternatively onlineThe

However there were a few designers that decided to be a little controversial and created a style completely opposite to that of the bleach job. These heavy weight trend setters, Tom Pecheux in particular opted for a series of full, bold and in your face brows. If you have a sweet and petite figure such as Kylie Minogue, opt for a denim number that is cropped. Such a style won’t dominate your petite frame and looks great with a summer dress and heels!

If you’re more if a pear shape then you should think about working the lapel styled denim jacket or alternatively a jacket that offers a hood or some shearling.

Get with the figure fixers!

Denim jackets are not only eight on trend for 2011, they are also great figure fixers and look great teamed with anything from cute linen crisp White sun dresses to maxi dresses and jeans to black leggings!

Add a few accessories such as a statement cuff, a cute pair of pearl studs and a few delicate ring and chains!

If you want to dress the look up a tad swap the pumps for a pair if killer suede heels!

Tights

A good tip to follow when putting your newly purchased tights on us to remove any bracelets or rings you may be wearing as these could cause the hosiery to rip, if you do end up ripping the tights slightly but nor enough to throw away, simply add a little clear nail varnish to the snagged area, thus should stop the rip from going any further!
